Scissor Lift Guide
Narrow vs Wide Scissor Lifts: Which One Do You Need?
The right scissor lift comes down to one thing before anything else: will it fit where you need to work? Here is how to choose between a narrow and a wide scissor lift in Houston.
The one difference that matters: width
A scissor lift's width decides where it can physically go. Narrow scissor lifts run about 30 to 32 inches wide and fit through standard doorways and tight aisles. Wide (standard) scissor lifts run about 46 to 48 inches wide and give a bigger, more stable platform but will not fit through many interior doorways or narrow racking aisles. Everything else flows from that one choice.
When you need a NARROW scissor lift
Choose narrow when the job is indoors and space is tight: retail stores, warehouse aisles down to about 44 inches, data centers and server rooms, clean rooms, schools, and hospitals. Narrow units like the LGMG SS2632E micro at 31.9 inches wide fit through a standard doorway without removing guardrails. The trade-off is a smaller platform and lower capacity, usually enough for one to two workers and light tools.
When you need a WIDE scissor lift
Choose wide when you have the room and need more platform space, higher capacity, or more height. Wide electric and rough-terrain models carry more workers and materials and reach greater heights, suiting open construction sites, large warehouses with wide aisles, and heavy ceiling or structural work. The trade-off is they will not fit through standard doorways or tight aisles.
Quick decision guide
Ask one question first: can the machine physically reach the work area? Measure your narrowest doorway or aisle. If it is under about 46 inches, you need a narrow or micro scissor lift. If you have open space and want maximum platform and capacity, go wide. In a mixed facility when in doubt, narrow is the safer bet because it goes more places.
Vertical mast lifts: the even-narrower option
If even a narrow scissor lift is too wide, a vertical mast lift is the tightest-access choice: a single-person lift on a compact base for stock picking and light maintenance in the tightest aisles. We rent and sell these in Houston too.
